Moorish Gecko (tarentola mauretanica)
Description: This gecko is also known as the Crocodile Gecko because of it's rough scalation. It grows to around 6 inches and can be light tan to brick red in colour. It is a nocturnal species which climbs well.
Vivarium Requirements: 20 inches (length) by 12 inches (width) by 15 inches (height) is suitable for 1 pair. Substrate should be sand mixed with potting compost and you should provide cork bark pieces and plenty of rocks. A false "cliff face" can be constructed from polystyrene - break out pieces of the polystyrene to form crevices and nooks and crannies, seal it by heating it gently with a soldering iron or low flame, then give it two coats of masonry paint sprinkling sand over the second coat before it dries. Temperature during the day needs to be around 86 degrees, falling to 68-70 degrees at night. Mist the tank lightly each morning and evening with a plant mister.
Feeding: Crickets, mealworms, waxworms. Dust prey with vitamin powder once every 7-10 days.
